Where do you get your favorite fall seasonal brews?

SAMANTHA BRIX PHOTO | Deks American Restaurant co-owner Kevin Scott pours a glass of Weyerbacker Imperial Pumpkin Ale.
The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting cooler — and the beers are getting more alcoholic.
Summer’s end means the start of Oktoberfest season, featuring the Oktoberfest blend, a dark beer that is higher than others in alcohol by volume (5.5 to 6 percent).
Don’t sweat the end of barbecues and beach days. Below, find a list of places around SunLand, by hamlet, to enjoy seasonal beers that pop up on shelves and pour out of taps at this time of year.
EAST YAPHANK
Clare Rose Beverage
100 Rose Executive Blvd.
East Yaphank, N.Y.
475-1840
If you can’t swing a trip to Munich, Germany for the Oktoberfest festival this year, head to Clare Rose Beverage in East Yaphank, where you can buy two German beers that have been served at the festival since it was founded in 1810: the Paulaner Oktoberfest-Märzen and the Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest-Märzen.
Clare Rose, a beer distributor that serves both Nassau and Suffolk counties, also sells an Oktoberfest-style beer by Bluepoint Brewing Company, based in Patchogue, and by Widmer Brothers Brewing, which calls their brew “Okto.”
A six-pack of each sells for $9.99.
Oktoberfest blends are “typically a nice, rich, deep copper-amber color with a rich, creamy head and a strong malt presence,” said Scott MacDonnel, import specialty manager at Clare Rose.
Restaurants often pair Oktoberfest beers with hearty meals like braised beef and potatoes or sausage and sauerkraut, Mr. MacDonnel said.
He said the fall seasonal beers tend to sell well since “beer consumers, especially the younger drinkers, are becoming more knowledgeable and diversified.”

PORT JEFFERSON
Grumpy Jack’s Sports Bar and Grill
28 Oakland Ave.
Port Jefferson, N.Y.
642-1942
Go to Grumpy Jack’s for Brooklyn Brewery’s Pumpkin Ale, served with cinnamon sugar spread around the rim of the glass.
The spread “gives it a pumpkin taste,” said bar manager Theresa Bonti. “It doesn’t taste like you’re drinking beer; it tastes like you’re drinking pumpkin pie.”
WADING RIVER
Village Beverage
6346 Route 25A
Wading River, N.Y.
929-0086
A number of locally-brewed seasonal beers, as well as Sam Adams Oktoberfest, are now on sale at Village Beverage.
Pumpkin Ales are in stock by Green Harbor Brewing Company in Greenport, Long Ireland Brewing Company in Riverhead and Great South Bay Brewery in Bay Shore.
The beers are available in growlers, which are 64-ounce jugs, for $13.99 to $15.99; six-packs are selling for $8 to $12, depending on the brew. The beers are also available in kegs starting at $180.
Manager Vic Kravchenko said fall’s seasonable beers tend to sell the best among the other seasonals, a trend he attributes to his business’ location, at the corner of Sound Avenue and Route 25A.
“People pass us on the way out east to do pumpkin picking and seasonal activities,” he said.
Phil’s Restaurant and Sports Lounge
1856 Wading River Manor Road
