Port Jefferson Documentary Series presents ‘Buck,’ 7 p.m. Theatre Three, 412 Main Street, Port Jefferson. Guest speaker: Cindy Meehl, director.Buck Brannaman is a living legend in the horse world and the inspiration for Robert Redford’s film, The Horse Whisperer. For Buck, a true cowboy, horses are a mirror of the human soul. Having been raised by an abusive father, he grew up hating violence and so developed his method of communicating with horses through instinct, not punishment, freeing the spirit of the horse and its human comrade. Brannaman has crisscrossed the world, sharing his wisdom and enriching the bond between man and horse. That relationship becomes a metaphor for meeting many of the challenges of life. First-time director Cindy Meehl brings this man, who is part guru and part psychologist, to life.
