Letter: Amper is off base on Middle Island plans

MIDDLE ISLAND

To the Editor:

Dick, Dick, Dick.

The recent North Shore Sun letter targeting Connie Kepert makes something abundantly clear.

Dick Amper’s been drinking from his cesspool again.

Sandy Hills is not a mega-development or a mini-city.  It’s a smart growth alternative to dozens of single family homes – which actually do raise taxes and threaten the environment.  This project will breathe new life into our hamlet center, while preserving almost half the parcel as open space.  It includes a brand new roadway to ease traffic at our community crossroads as well as a protective culvert for the endangered tiger salamander, last seen in 1984.

Councilwoman Kepert supported this type of project long before being elected to public office; she will continue to do so no matter how much raw sewage Amper slings her way.

Connie is fearless.  Amper is clueless … and downright nasty.

In recent months, he’s written angry letters to civic groups, screamed publicly at environmentalists, asked for legal sanctions against volunteers, and told Board of Education members they had no right to testify at government hearings.

Amper would do well to follow the advice given him at the final public meeting of the Carmans River Protection Plan Committee by its chairman, Dr. Lee Koppleman:  “Dick, sit down and shut up!”
