SWR school board to appoint new director of student services

The Shoreham-Wading River school board will vote tonight to appoint Charles Althoff as interim director of student services at a per diem rate of $600.

If appointed, Mr. Althoff would be employed starting tomorrow through June 30, 2012. He would not receive medical benefits, and either he or the district could terminate his employment by giving written notice 15 days ahead of time.

The district is looking to fill the director of student services role, which was left vacant last month when William Bushman took a leave of absence from the position for one year to serve as the assistant superintendent for human resources.

The board will also vote on a measure to appoint Dr. Bushman to the positions of records management officer and records access officer.

Also at tonight’s meeting, superintendent Steven Cohen will give a presentation on educational goals and priorities for this school year. The board is expected to adopt the goals at the Sept. 20 meeting; they will then be posted on the district’s website.

The Board of Education will also recognize Erin Gorman and Janene Gentile of the North Shore Youth Council for their efforts in working with students from the community.

Tonight’s board meeting will be held at 8 p.m. in the high school library.
