Long Island Museum’s Family Fun Day features Carole Demas and Paula Janis, stars of WPIX New York show “The Magic Garden,” in a live performance featuring audience participation stories and signature songs. The Magic Garden was the most successful regional show in the history of children’s television, broadcast on WPIX New York from early 1970s to mid 80s with stories, songs, games, lessons and laughter in colorful garden setting. Carole and Paula offer two performances at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and seating is limited. Pick up free tickets in the Museum Visitors Center beginning at noon the day of the show on a first come, first served basis. Carole and Paula will meet and greet their audience, sign CDs, DVDs and posters and pose for photos after each show. 16th Annual Stony Brook Film Festival opens with the U.S. premiere of “Sonny Boy” from the Netherlands, directed by Maria Peters, 8 p.m. in Staller Center Main Stage Theatre at Stony Brook University. Romantic story of a mother of four children and a Surinam man seventeen years her junior in pre-World War II Holland, based on actual events. On closing night, Saturday, July 30, Stony Brook screens the East Coast premiere of “Almanya,” a German film directed by Yasemin Samdereli and co-written with her sister Nesrin. They draw on stories of their grandfather who immigrated to Germany from Turkey and brought his family to live there. The festival expects over 15,000 patrons over ten days with film passes for entry to all films $75.
