Women’s Lacrosse: Rocky Point’s Jackie Lyons tabbed All-American
Former Rocky Point lacrosse player Jackie Lyons (’07) was honored as an All-American after finishing a stellar season at the University of Massachusetts, where she led the Minutewomen to the Atlantic 10 Championship and spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Lyons was named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America Third Team, the SynapseSports.com All-America Third Team and to the WomensLax.com All-America Team. She received the highest honor of All-America of any local player in college lacrosse.
Lyons finished her career at UMass as the school’s all-time leader in career points (226). In her senior season she tallied a career-high 73 points (41 goals, 32 assists). She finished one point shy of the single-season record.
She leaves UMass as the all-time leader in games played (77) and games started (76).
In late April Lyons was honored as the A-10 Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. She was just the second player in conference history to win the award twice.
UMass finished the season 17-3 — the second most wins in program history — and lost to No. 5 Loyola in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was the fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
Lyons was a three-time A-10 All-Conference player and a two-time A-10 All Tournament Team MVP.
As a senior at Rocky Point Lyons scored 83 goals with 80 assists and was a member of the Under Armour All-America team. She helped lead the Eagles to county championships from 2005-07.
Overall it was an outstanding season for Rocky Point lacrosse players in college. Brianne LoManto (’08) and Kara Mupo (’10) helped lead Northwestern to the Division I national championship Sunday. Emily Mercier (’10) and Alison Staudt (’08) played for Division II national champion Adelphi under Joe Spallina, who coached the girls in high school.
