Wellington Bar and Grill destroyed in overnight fire
A longtime local tavern with deep roots in the Middle Island community, Wellington Bar and Grill is likely no more after an overnight fire gutted the inside of the watering hole early Wednesday.
About 75 firefighters from five departments responded to the 4 a.m. call, fighting the blaze for more than two hours, according to Middle Island fire chief Al Olsen.
“It was fully involved when we got there,” Mr. Olsen said.
The Gordon Heights, Yaphank, Rocky Point and Ridge fire departments all assisted Middle Island at the scene. Suffolk County Police arson investigators and Brookhaven Town fire marshals were still on the scene at 10 a.m. Wednesday and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
There were no reported injuries.
