Prostate screening, smoking cessation class being held

Prostate support group meets
A support group class for people with prostrate cancer meets the first Tuesday of each month at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson.
The next meeting will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 1, with guest speaker Andy Bessette from Stamen Medical Systems.
Enter the hospital through the Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion and follow signs to O.R. conference room. Light refreshments will be served.

There will be free PSA screenings and examinations available from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday March 15 at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson.

Need help parenting teens?
An “active parenting” class, geared for parents of 12-year-olds and up meeting the challenges of parenting “tweens and teens,” will be held by Sister Mary Ann of Hope House Ministries at Mt. Sinai Congregational Church, UCC.
The class will meet at 7:30 p.m. on four Wednesdays, March 2, 16, 23 and 30. The suggested donation is $10. Call the church at 473-1582 for information and to reserve a space.

Stop smoking for free!
The first of seven classes of a free smoking cessation program, “Learn to Be Tobacco Free,” will be held March 7 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.
Classes begin at 6 p.m., meeting in Room 212 at 100 Hospital Rd., across the street from the medical center. The program is presented by the hospital and Suffolk County Department of Health.
